My nephew (we call him Baloo) turned 1 last weekend and my sister and brother-in-law threw an awesome party for him. Baloo is like a big gorilla, climbing all over the place and grabbing at everything in sight. It only seemed fitting for the party to have a King Kong theme.

For favors I made my own chocolate chip banana nut granola and packaged them in Bell mason jars with some stickers and labels I designed.

Kids got lollipops with a googly-eyed gorilla face.

And guests had fun posing and taking pictures with this silly cardboard cutout poster I made one day (all you need is an exacto knife, a huge piece of cardboard and some acrylic paint).

Happy Birthday, Baloo!
See more photos from the party at my sister's site and on my Flickr.

What a great idea for a party!
i'm just putting this out there. if you ever need another sister, i am available for adoption.
i don't have kids. but i will make them pronto and you can design them magical things.
caroline, that is just about the funniest comment ever. btw i've been meaning to tell you how much i love your blog!
Hi Erin - This is so fun. Of course, I love the custom-designed stickers and granola jars.
And you're way too modest about the posterboard - along with the cardboard and paint you also need some artistic talent and a steady hand! : )
I have this ambitious dream to write children's books. I'm a teacher, and I see the huge need for high interest, low reading level chapter books for boys. I am going to write them one day. And I can't get it out of my head that I want you to illustrate them.
Yes, I understand how crazy forward that statement is. But I still wanted to share.
How great! Baloo is the luckiest gorilla in the jungle.
hilarious!!!! i LOVE it!
oh my goodness, ADORABLE, ERIN!!!!!!!!!! that baby's face in the king kong cut-out is just too cute. and funnily enough, i was just admiring your esquire rubik's cube TOC tonight! xoxo
